Iraq sets September 30 deadline for International Coalition withdrawal

Iraq has confirmed that the International Coalition's military mission against ISIS will conclude with a final withdrawal deadline of September 30. The Iraqi Ministry of Defense stated that this timeline is the result of prior planning and an agreement between Baghdad and its partners, marking a significant step for national sovereignty.

Iraqi security forces, including the army and the Ministry of Interior, have expressed readiness to assume full responsibility for national security and border protection. Officials cited the development of advanced intelligence systems and successful operations against terrorist groups as evidence of their capability to manage the security file independently.

President Nizar Amidi emphasized a policy of 'Iraq first,' seeking to maintain neutrality amidst regional tensions between the United States and Iran. He also reiterated the national priority of ensuring that the monopoly on weapons remains exclusively with the state. While the coalition's combat mission is ending, Iraq intends to continue military cooperation with international partners regarding training, capacity building, and the development of its air force and air defense systems.
