Iraq Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaidi signs 48 US deals covering oil, energy, tech and pipeline revamp
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaidi visited Washington and signed 48 agreements and memoranda of understanding with American companies, valued at more than $60 billion and spanning the energy, healthcare and technology sectors.
The deals involve major oil and energy firms such as ExxonMobil, KBR, GE Vernova, Shell, Halliburton and Chevron, and include a plan to revive the long‑defunct Iraq‑Syria crude oil pipeline, which could transport up to two million barrels per day.
Iraq also secured a partnership with Starlink to provide satellite internet services and announced ambitions to raise oil output to seven million barrels per day within three years, backed by a sovereign‑wealth fund for financing.
During the visit the prime minister met President Donald Trump, stating that after the U.S. troop withdrawal the relationship will shift from military to economic cooperation, giving priority to U.S. companies in key projects.
