Iraq Prime Minister Ali Zaydi Moves to End Immunity for 12 Officials

The Iraqi government is launching the second phase of its anti‑corruption campaign, known as the “Dawn Tour.” The operation targets alleged graft in the health, oil and electricity ministries and includes tracing assets inside Iraq and abroad. Prime Minister Ali Zaydi is set to meet leaders of the coordination framework to discuss how the immunity shield will be lifted, regardless of party affiliation. Lawmakers in the framework have voiced “open and continuous” support for the anti‑corruption drive, while analysts note that the step mainly implements long‑stalled court decisions rather than opening new investigations. Critics warn that selective enforcement could preserve a sense of impunity among entrenched politicians.
