Iraq recovers $1 billion in assets amid anti-corruption campaign
The Iraqi government has announced the recovery of over 1.359 trillion dinars (approximately $1.032 billion) in assets, funds, and real estate as part of its 'Dawn Raid' anti-corruption campaign. Government spokesperson Hayder al-Aboudi stated that the Integrity Commission has received more than 26,000 corruption-related reports. To encourage whistleblowing, the government has activated an informant law that offers rewards of up to 5% of the value of recovered funds.
In a separate economic update, financial advisor Muzhar Mohammed Saleh reported that Iraq's foreign currency reserves are projected to reach approximately $79.2 billion by 2026, according to IMF estimates. While this level provides roughly 9.6 months of import coverage—considered a relatively safe margin—Saleh warned that a continued downward trend in reserves could reduce the nation's monetary safety margin. He emphasized the need for fiscal reforms and reduced reliance on oil revenues to ensure long-term stability.
