Iraq recovers 375 kg of gold in anti‑corruption operation

Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council announced on 13 July 2026 the seizure of 375 kg of gold linked to a corruption probe involving former Deputy Minister of Oil for Refining, Adnan al‑Jumaili. Prosecutor Dhia Jafar said 358 kg were recovered in a coordinated raid with Kurdistan regional authorities, while a separate investigation secured an additional 17 kg the same day. The gold was handed to the Central Bank of Iraq’s Treasury Department for tracing and repatriation.

The haul is part of the wider “Operation Dawn” anti‑corruption campaign launched by Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaidi, which has already led to the arrest of dozens of senior officials and the recovery of more than $100 million in cash and other assets, including 14 billion Iraqi dinars found in a drainage pit. Authorities say the total assets tied to the al‑Jumaili case now exceed $96 million, plus real estate, vehicles and jewellery.
