Iraq seizes $10 million and 40 kg of gold in corruption probe of former oil minister

Iraqi authorities seized cash worth about US$10 million (approximately Rp 185 billion) and 40 kilograms of gold in a large anti‑corruption operation linked to former oil minister Adnan al‑Jumaili. The assets were recovered across several locations in Salah al‑Din province, northern Iraq, and include 13 billion Iraqi dinars in cash, $400,000, and gold bars each weighing one kilogram, plus additional gold jewellery totalling five kilograms.

Al‑Jumaili was dismissed from his post on 2 June and arrested on 28 June on suspicion of embezzlement and misuse of public funds. He previously drew public attention for allegedly hiding more than Rp 361 billion in cash and gold inside water‑jug containers at his residence. The latest seizure follows a broader campaign launched by the Iraqi government to recover misappropriated state assets and prosecute officials involved in financial misconduct.
