Iraq seizes 27 billion dinars in oil ministry corruption case
Iraqi anti‑corruption judges announced the seizure of 27 billion dinars (over 20 million USD) linked to former oil‑ministry deputy Adnan Al‑Jamili. The assets, recovered after detailed tracing of funds hidden by several individuals, were part of a wider crackdown that has already confiscated more than 141 billion dinars (about 108 million USD) in cash, dollars, gold, real‑estate, flour‑mill facilities, trucks and other valuables.
The operation, dubbed the “Bright Dawn” campaign and overseen by Chief Justice Faiq Zidan, has led to the detention of over 50 people, including senior officials and members of parliament, who are accused of participating in large‑scale corrupt contracts and project waste.
Earlier in the month, authorities had seized 25 billion dinars, 200 000 USD and four kilograms of gold, underscoring the scale of the illicit financial network tied to the oil ministry’s contracting practices.
