Iraqi MP Mohammed al-Jubouri sentenced to 7 years for corruption
An Iraqi court has sentenced Member of Parliament Mohammed Farman Shaher Salman al-Jubouri to seven years in prison for illicit enrichment. The ruling, issued by the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court, also includes a separate sentence of three years of rigorous imprisonment for the crime of concealment, with the harsher penalty being applied.
In addition to the prison term, al-Jubouri has been ordered to repay the illicitly gained assets, totaling approximately 11.8 billion Iraqi dinars and 1.7 million US dollars. The court also imposed a fine equivalent to the value of the illicit gains, bringing the total financial obligation to over 28 billion Iraqi dinars.
Al-Jubouri, a representative for Ninawa Governorate from the Taqadum Party and a member of the Parliament's Oil and Gas Committee, had previously seen his movable and immovable assets frozen by the Central Bank of Iraq following judicial orders related to anti-corruption investigations. The court has upheld the seizure of his assets and granted the Federal Integrity Commission the right to claim compensation for damages once the verdict becomes final.
