Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaidi advances weapons control and anti‑corruption reforms

Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaidi said his government will confine all weapons to state authority and eradicate institutional corruption, noting that Iraq’s parliament has granted full authorization for these measures. Pro‑Iran factions in the country have announced they are ready to hand over arms and integrate into the national security apparatus, supporting the prime minister’s agenda for stability and foreign investment.

The United States backs the initiative. President Donald Trump praised al‑Zaidi’s election and invited him to the White House, and U.S. envoy Tom Barrack met the prime minister in Baghdad to discuss complete disarmament, expanded American presence in southern oil fields, and assistance in banking, energy and defense. A visit to Washington is slated for mid‑July to formalise a new partnership focused on security, economic cooperation and anti‑corruption efforts.
