Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zaydi pushes US‑Iraq security and economic partnership in Washington

Iraq emphasized its commitment to an economic‑reform programme, attracting U.S. companies, and ensuring state monopoly over weapons, linking disarmament with anti‑corruption measures.

Washington outlined three conditions for the future partnership—control of weapons, continued security collaboration, and a robust economic agenda—while preparing for the coalition’s planned September 30 withdrawal. Both sides signaled a shift from a primarily military relationship to a strategic framework focused on oil projects, new pipelines and broader trade, aiming to reduce Iraq’s reliance on the Strait of Hormuz and deepen bilateral ties.
