Iraqi security forces track IRGC-linked drone cells

Iraqi security forces are monitoring a shift in the operational tactics of groups linked to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). To avoid detection by government and American pressure, these groups have transitioned from large, visible armed factions to small, decentralized cells consisting of five to ten individuals.

These cells operate independently of known militia leadership and maintain direct links to the IRGC, reportedly through Hajj Hamed, the IRGC's chief advisor in Iraq. These small groups utilize civilian vehicles and lack military insignia to facilitate the movement of drones and evade surveillance. Their primary focus involves conducting limited drone strikes, which have previously targeted Erbil and neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Kuwait.

In a recent development in Babil province, Iraqi authorities arrested a three-person cell belonging to local militias. Reports indicate this cell had direct communication with Iranian officials responsible for drone operations and was planning attacks targeting sites outside of Iraqi territory.
