Iraq's Prime Minister orders activation of whistleblower law

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has directed the activation of the whistleblower law to combat corruption and expose those involved in financial misconduct. During a visit to the Federal Commission of Integrity, al-Zaidi emphasized that the commission must serve as a primary defense for protecting public funds through both oversight and preventative measures.

To increase efficiency, the Prime Minister ordered that project monitoring be categorized into three levels based on cost and scale, prioritizing high-cost projects, followed by medium and small-scale ones. He also called for enhanced monitoring of border crossings and the submission of regular monthly and quarterly reports regarding anti-corruption progress.

The Commission of Integrity reported that field teams have already completed contract audits for eight ministries. Additionally, the commission has finalized a national integrity and anti-corruption strategy intended to run through 2030.
