Ireland faces return of heatwave with temperatures near 30°C next week

Met Éireann forecasts that a new heatwave is likely to develop across Ireland in early July 2026. A high‑pressure system moving in from the southwest is expected to bring clear skies and temperatures that could reach the mid‑20s Celsius, with the south and west, particularly County Cork, potentially seeing highs above 30°C. The agency defines a heatwave as five consecutive days with maximum temperatures of at least 25°C at a monitoring station.

The forecast follows a brief cooler spell after a late‑June heatwave that also produced temperatures above 30°C in parts of the country. Weather experts, including climate scientist Cathal Nolan, warn that the upcoming period may bring sustained warm conditions, while also noting the risk of similar heatwave patterns developing in central and western Europe, such as France, northern Spain, western Germany and southern England. The national outlook predicts generally dry weather with intermittent rain and drizzle mainly affecting the west and north, and improving sunshine across the south and east early next week.
