Ireland issues U2 commemorative 2-euro coin for 50th anniversary

The Central Bank of Ireland has issued a commemorative 2-euro coin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the rock band U2. The release coincides with September 25, marking half a century since the group's first meeting in Dublin in 1976.

Designed by Shaughn McGrath in collaboration with the band, the coin features the faces of the four members: Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. The issuance is available in two formats for collectors: 150,000 Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) pieces priced at 14.95 euros, and 5,000 Proof quality pieces priced at 39.95 euros. The Proof versions feature a mirror-like background and matte relief.

Larry Mullen Jr. attended the official presentation at the Little Museum of Dublin, where Central Bank Deputy Governor Vasileios Madouros introduced the piece. The coins were minted by the Royal Dutch Mint.
