Ireland to issue U2 50th anniversary commemorative coin
The Central Bank of Ireland will issue a commemorative 2 euro coin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the rock band U2. The release is scheduled for September 25, 2026, marking five decades since the group's formation in Dublin in 1976.
The band, consisting of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr., began as teenagers practicing in a Dublin kitchen. The commemorative issue will be available in Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof Quality editions for collectors. While the specific design of the coin has not yet been revealed, the Central Bank stated the honor recognizes the band's immense international cultural impact and musical legacy.
