Irene Dionisio’s film ‘Idda’ opens Alice nella città

The film ‘Idda’, directed by Irene Dionisio, has opened the Panorama Italia section of the Alice nella città festival in Rome. Following a presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film explores the intimate and sensory connection between two childhood friends, Adele and Sofia, as they attempt to climb Mount Etna.

The title ‘Idda’, which means ‘she’ in Sicilian, refers to the volcano itself, personifying Etna as a central character in the narrative. The story follows the two women in their thirties as they confront long-held secrets and tensions during their ascent, using the landscape to explore themes of memory, identity, and femininity.

The film stars Tecla Insolia, Romana Maggiora Vergano, and Giuseppe De Domenico. It was produced by Kino Produzioni in association with Rai Cinema and received support from the Italian Ministry of Culture and various regional film commissions.
