Irene Dionisio's film 'Idda' premieres at Alice nella Città

Director Irene Dionisio's second feature film, 'Idda', has opened the Panorama Italia section of Alice nella Città, a parallel event to the Rome Film Festival. The film, which previously screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, follows two childhood friends, played by Tecla Insolia and Romana Maggiora Vergano, as they embark on a physical and emotional climb of Mount Etna.

Dionisio was honored at the festival with the Womenlands Excellence Award and the Millennial Visionary Award. The narrative explores themes of friendship, memory, and the connection between women, utilizing elements of magical realism to address loss and the processing of pain.

According to Dionisio, the film aims to celebrate female bonds and investigate what remains after absence, focusing on the strength of memory and the ability to express authentic feelings toward significant people in one's life.
