IRIS Payments accounts for 70% of instant payments in Greece
A joint study by DIAS and Capgemini Invent reveals that IRIS Payments accounted for approximately 70% of all instant payment volumes in Greece in 2025. The report, titled ‘Scaling Account-Based Payments in Europe: The IRIS Case’, notes that roughly 126.4 million transactions, totaling 10.9 billion euros, were processed through the system during the year.
Interbank transactions saw significant growth, rising from 1.6 million euros in 2020 to 95.4 million euros in 2025. The number of IRIS P2P (Person-to-Person) users grew from 500,000 at the start of 2020 to 4.75 million by the end of 2025. Additionally, IRIS P2Pro (Person-to-Professional) has reached nearly 600,000 registered professionals.
The study identifies 2021 as a strategic turning point for the service. Following a shift in leadership at DIAS, the focus moved from technical availability to commercial expansion, establishing a unified IRIS Payments identity, emphasizing ease of use, and implementing zero fees for individuals.
