Irish municipalities secure millions for urban regeneration projects
Significant urban regeneration funding has been allocated to several Irish regions through the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has secured approximately €17.1 million for six projects aimed at improving public spaces, transport, and community facilities. Key investments include €7.5 million to repurpose a vacant building in Sandyford into a community and library facility, and €7.4 million for the Dundrum Living Streets project to enhance walking and cycling infrastructure. Other allocations support the creation of an urban park in Dún Laoghaire, design work for a public plaza in Blackrock, and conservation efforts at Shanganagh Castle.
In Galway City, €15.45 million has been designated for five redevelopment projects. Two major initiatives, An Tús Kingston Park and Ceannt – Augustine Hill, have each received €7.5 million. The Kingston Park project will provide recreational infrastructure for approximately 14,000 people, including synthetic pitches and greenways. The Ceannt – Augustine Hill project focuses on expanding the city centre eastwards through enhanced public realms and upgraded transport connections at Ceannt Station.
