Isar Aerospace reaches orbit with Spectrum rocket from Norway
German startup Isar Aerospace has successfully reached orbit using its Spectrum rocket, marking the first time a private European company has achieved an orbital launch from continental Europe. The mission launched from the Andøya Spaceport in Norway, successfully deploying six payloads, including five CubeSats and one experimental technology payload.
This achievement follows a failed attempt in March 2025, where the rocket crashed 30 seconds after liftoff. The successful flight is seen as a major step toward European space sovereignty and an alternative to state-led or US-based launch providers.
Additionally, Isar Aerospace has secured a second launch agreement with Astroscale Japan Inc. for the ADRAS-J2 debris removal mission. This mission, part of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Commercial Removal of Debris Demonstration project, is targeted for launch between 2027 and 2028 from Andøya Space.
