Ishaq Oloyede concludes tenure as JAMB Registrar

Professor Ishaq Oloyede has concluded his tenure as the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), having served since his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2016. His leadership is noted for significant fiscal reforms and increased accountability within the agency.

Under Oloyede’s stewardship, JAMB’s revenue remittance to the Federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund saw a dramatic increase. In 2017, the agency remitted ₦7.86 billion, a sharp rise from the previous average annual remittance of approximately ₦3 million. By 2022, the cumulative six-year revenue surplus remitted to the national treasury reached ₦50 billion, compared to a total of only ₦52 million delivered by predecessors over a 40-year period.

These financial improvements occurred alongside a reduction in costs for candidates, as the price for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms was reduced from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500. The agency's fiscal performance led President Buhari to direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate Oloyede’s predecessors, resulting in legal charges against them.
