İSKİ opens six new facilities to boost Istanbul disaster preparedness

The Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) has inaugurated six new facilities on the European side of Istanbul to strengthen the city's infrastructure and disaster response capabilities. The opening ceremony, held at the İSKİ General Directorate Campus in Eyüpsultan, included the activation of logistics centers, disaster coordination areas, and service buildings.

These new facilities, located in areas including Bağcılar Mahmutbey, Eyüpsultan, Silivri Parkköy, and Selimpaşa, are designed to ensure the continuity of water and wastewater services during crises such as earthquakes or major floods. The logistics centers aim to centralize the storage of essential equipment—such as pipes, valves, and connection parts—protecting them from environmental factors and ensuring rapid deployment to field sites.

İSKİ General Manager Doç. Dr. Şafak Başa stated that the logistics centers alone represent an investment of 292 million lira, while the broader package including health service buildings and coordination areas totals approximately 500 million lira. The project focuses on three critical requirements for post-disaster service: having equipment ready at the correct locations, directing response teams quickly, and maintaining inter-unit coordination.
