Islamabad High Court reviews petition against PTI September 27 protest
The Islamabad High Court is hearing a petition challenging a planned nationwide protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) scheduled for September 27. The petition, filed by a citizen, argues that the march could disrupt traffic, business, and the daily lives of residents in the federal capital.
During the proceedings, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar addressed concerns regarding the legality and impact of the protest. The Attorney General argued that the right to protest must not infringe upon the rights of other citizens and emphasized that public resources and officials should not be used for political demonstrations.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Shah Faisal Utmankhel raised jurisdictional objections, arguing that the high court's authority is limited to the Islamabad Capital Territory and cannot issue directives to officials in other provinces. He also suggested that the petitioner should have sought remedies through the Islamabad chief commissioner.
In response to the legal challenges, opposition leaders have intensified political activities. They have decided to prepare for the September 27 protest and are planning to convene an all-parties conference to establish a collective strategy for addressing national issues.
