The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has decided to form a larger bench to hear a petition challenging the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) planned protest and long march scheduled for September 27 in the capital.

Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar heard the petition filed by Waqas Ahmed, a local businessman who expressed concerns that the demonstration could disrupt commercial activities and public order. The petitioner’s counsel cited a previous 2024 protest that allegedly resulted in the deaths of three Rangers personnel and financial losses totaling approximately Rs240 million.

In response to the sensitivity of the matter, which the Chief Justice described as potentially resembling a ‘constitutional crisis,’ the court summoned the chief secretaries and inspectors general of police from all four provinces to appear in person. The court also issued notices to the Attorney General for Pakistan and summoned Islamabad’s chief commissioner, deputy commissioner, and police chief. The hearing has been adjourned until September 10.
