Islamic Community in Serbia reaffirms push for religious unity

The Islamic Community in Serbia (IZuS) has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring unity within the community. During an extraordinary extended session, the Mešihat of IZuS unanimously supported ongoing activities aimed at reconciliation. Muftija Sandžacki Mevlud ef. Dudić, leading a five-member team, has been authorized to continue the process of restoring unity, autonomy, and equality for the community in Serbia.

This initiative has received support from various entities, including the Bosniak National Council (BNV), the Rijaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Mešihat of the Islamic Community in Montenegro. Political groups such as the SDA of Sandžak and the SPP have also endorsed the platform for Muslim unity in Serbia.

Despite these institutional moves, some observers have called for greater transparency. Critics argue that years of closed-door negotiations have failed to produce concrete results and suggest that the process should be made public to allow believers to understand the disputes and potentially decide on the future organization of the community through a democratic process or referendum.
