Isle of Wight plans junction overhaul and new business levy

The Isle of Wight is planning a £1.83 million overhaul of the Vittlefields Cross junction to address its status as the island’s primary accident cluster. The project is part of the Local Transport Delivery Plan for 2026/27 to 2029/30. Development is scheduled to begin in April 2026, with construction starting in June 2027 and completion expected by March 2029. The junction has been the site of several significant incidents, including a fatal collision in 2019.

Separately, Visit Isle of Wight is proposing a new stepped levy for the Wight BID 3 initiative. This new funding model aims to create a fairer system by adjusting contributions based on business size, sector, and rateable value, rather than applying a uniform percentage. The proposal seeks to protect smaller businesses while increasing investment in destination marketing and business support to combat inflation and rising operational costs.
