Ismea and Sicily report significant shifts in agrifood funding and regional development spending

Ismea has approved a new procedural model for its market-condition component (FCM) to provide greater flexibility for agrifood companies. Moving away from fixed-window calls, the Institute will now implement a continuous ‘open window’ evaluation process via a dedicated portal. This allows businesses to submit investment projects—ranging from 2 to 20 million euros—without waiting for specific announcement deadlines. The financial instruments include equity, quasi-equity, bonds, and participatory financial instruments.

Separately, Sicily has emerged as the leader in Italy for the implementation of the 2021-2027 Development and Cohesion Fund (FSC). According to monitoring data as of June 30, 2026, the region leads the country in both legally binding commitments and actual payments, surpassing Campania and Calabria. Sicily manages a total allocation of nearly 5 billion euros, intended for infrastructure, environment, water resources, mobility, and business competitiveness. Regional President Renato Schifani attributed this acceleration to efficient regional governance and support from Cassa depositi e prestiti.
