Isola Capo Rizzuto authorities seize 130kg of fish and fine restaurant
As part of the national and transnational ‘Focus ‘Ndrangheta’ plan, an inter-agency operation in Isola Capo Rizzuto, Crotone, resulted in the seizure of 130kg of fish and thousands of euros in fines. The operation involved the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Coast Guard, Labor Inspectorate, and the local health authority (ASP).
During inspections of a restaurant and pizzeria, authorities discovered a lack of traceability for approximately 130kg of seafood, leading to a €2,000 fine and the seizure of the products. Additionally, the establishment faced €3,000 in further administrative fines for failing to update sanitary documentation and failing to implement HACCP self-control plans.
The business was ordered to undergo temporary closure until hygienic and structural conditions are restored. Furthermore, a storage area located beneath the restaurant used for food and non-food products was permanently suspended due to inadequate sanitary and structural standards.
