Isola di Capo Rizzuto authorities launch anti-mafia probe and marine reserve enforcement
Authorities in Isola di Capo Rizzuto are conducting multiple investigations involving environmental protection and organized crime.
In the local marine reserve, Carabinieri and Coast Guard officials have charged six individuals, aged 26 to 43, for operating jet skis at high speeds near swimmers and within protected areas. Following reports of systematic violations, the Prosecutor’s Office of Crotone ordered the urgent seizure of three jet skis and one inflatable boat. The suspects also reportedly acted aggressively toward military personnel during inspections.
Simultaneously, an anti-mafia access commission has been established at the Isola di Capo Rizzuto Municipality. Three commissioners appointed by the Prefecture have begun reviewing administrative documents from 2025 onwards to detect potential criminal infiltration. The investigation includes examining the ‘Black Flower’ dossier, which involves an extortion system targeting a tourist village, and scrutinizing local business ties and municipal council records to identify links to organized crime.
