Israel airstrike in southern Lebanon kills five hours after ceasefire

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect on Friday at 4:00 p.m. local time, ending a week of fighting along the Lebanon border. Within a few hours, the Israeli Air Force struck the Jabal al‑Rafi area near the town of Sajd in southern Lebanon, killing five people.

Hezbollah's leader Nasim Qasim warned that any attack on the group would be met with force, while Israeli officials said they would keep a security zone in southern Lebanon and would respond to any aggression. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also warned Hezbollah of a "heavy price" after the death of four Israeli soldiers the previous day.

The incident raises concerns that the fragile truce could unravel and reignite broader hostilities.
