Israel airstrikes hit Lebanese hospitals, killing dozens of medical staff

On the night of 1 June 2026 the Israeli army carried out an airstrike near the Jabal Amel hospital in Sour/Tiro, southern Lebanon. The attack killed four people and wounded 127, including 39 members of hospital staff. It severely damaged the hospital’s wards, radiology department and intensive‑care unit, forcing the evacuation of half the remaining ICU patients.

The strike follows a previous Israeli bombing of the nearby Hiram hospital that wounded 13 medical workers. Médecins Sans Frontières condemned the attacks as a violation of humanitarian law, calling the deliberate targeting of health facilities a form of "healthocide". The incidents occur amid a sharp escalation of the IsraelLebanon conflict and recent evacuation orders for areas south of Beirut.

The attacks highlight the growing danger to civilian health services and raise urgent concerns about protecting medical personnel and maintaining access to life‑saving care in the war zone.
