Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have warned Hamas that the military will intensify targeted strikes and potentially evacuate residential areas in the Gaza Strip if the launching of kites, balloons, and drones toward Israeli territory does not cease immediately. This escalation follows several incidents where small kites, made of precarious materials and carrying no explosives, landed near the Israeli community of Nahal Oz.

Defense Minister Katz stated that such launches will be treated as military actions equivalent to drone attacks, regardless of whether they carry dangerous substances. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem rejected these warnings, characterizing the kites as toys made by children in displaced person camps and accusing Israel of using them as a pretext to escalate attacks and violate the existing ceasefire agreement.

Simultaneously, Israeli airstrikes have continued across the Gaza Strip, hitting mosques, water desalination plants, and homes in areas such as Gaza City, the Bureij refugee camp, and Al-Zawayda. Palestinian health officials report that over 1,280 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025. The renewed military activity has raised concerns regarding the stability of the peace process supported by international mediators.
