Israel airstrikes in Gaza kill 11, including Al Jazeera cameraman
Medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that Israeli airstrikes on Saturday killed eleven people. Among the dead were Al Jazeera journalist‑cameraman Ahmet Wissa and two other civilians, as well as four members of the Safanti family – parents and two daughters – hit by a strike on the Sabra neighbourhood. A fifth casualty was later identified after a separate drone strike in northern Gaza.
The Israeli army said the operation was a precision strike that eliminated Ahmet Wissa, describing him as a "terrorist of Hamas," though no evidence was offered. The Qatar‑based Al Jazeera network denounced the killing as an "intentional assassination" using an unmanned aerial vehicle. According to Reporters Without Borders, more than 220 journalists have been killed in Gaza since the war began in October 2023, including at least 70 while on duty.
The attacks occurred despite a fragile cease‑fire announced on 10 October 2025, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violations. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that the cease‑fire period has already seen over 1,012 Palestinian deaths, while the Israeli side reported five of its own casualties.
