Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least 11 people and injured 19 others, marking the deadliest incident since the recent ceasefire began. The attacks targeted two residential areas: Ansar in the Nabatiye region, where seven people were killed, and Deir al-Zahrani, where four others died amid significant property destruction.

Local reports indicate that among the casualties were women and children, including a mother and her four children. While the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated the strikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure, they also accused the group of using civilians as human shields. The military operations follow clashes between the IDF and Hezbollah over control of the Ali Taher Ridge within a security zone being established by Israeli forces.

In response, Hezbollah has threatened an ‘adequate response’ and urged the Lebanese state to halt the aggression. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun suggested the strikes were intended as a ‘clear message’ ahead of upcoming negotiations between the United States and Iran. The escalation occurs as the June ceasefire agreement, which aimed to facilitate Israeli withdrawal in exchange for Hezbollah disarmament, remains unadhered to by the militant group.
