Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the seventh round of U.S.-mediated talks in Rome showed "positive progress" on borders, prisoner exchanges and the pilot‑zone plan. The parties also reached an agreement on a short list of countries that could send forces to verify Hezbollah’s disarmament; the United States will choose the contributors and has vetoed France. Italy emerged as the leading candidate to head the verification mechanism.

Israel has refused to withdraw from additional southern Lebanese areas until the Lebanese army fully controls the two pilot zones already established, and it continues to issue forced evacuation orders, notably for the town of Mansouri. Israeli strikes have wounded at least eight people in the Tyre district and have caused demolition of homes and burning of farmland. Two Israeli reservists, Major Harel Birenstock and Sergeant‑Chief Tamir Vaknin, were killed by an explosive during operations in southern Lebanon.

The talks were described by the U.S. State Department as “productive” and “positive” on technical and expert levels. President Aoun also highlighted Turkey’s readiness to provide energy assistance and praised U.S. President Donald Trump’s support, including the lifting of a flight ban on Lebanon.
