Israel and Lebanon sign US‑brokered peace framework agreement

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the trilateral framework signed with Lebanon and the United States as a historic step toward ending the state of war between the neighbours. The deal includes a pilot plan for Lebanese soldiers to assume control of two Israeli‑held areas and outlines a process for the Lebanese army to regain full sovereign authority after Hezbollah’s disarmament.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called the accord a “first step” toward restoring Lebanon’s sovereignty. The agreement was welcomed by the United States, which pledged to safeguard Lebanon’s independence.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir condemned the pact, calling it a “grave error” and urging Prime Minister Netanyahu to call a vote to reject it. He warned, “Só os soldados das Forças de Defesa de Israel destruirão o Hezbollah, nenhuma outra parte o fará por nós.” Hezbollah also denounced the deal as null and void.
