Israel attacks Hezbollah sites in Beirut as Iran warns of retaliation
The Israeli Defense Forces struck Hezbollah targets in the Dahye neighbourhood of south Beirut, a raid confirmed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz. The operation killed three people and injured several others, and was reported alongside the arrival of a Qatari delegation in Tehran aimed at advancing US‑Iran peace talks.
Iran’s senior security council member Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr said on X that “La respuesta de los combatientes del Islam está por llegar” (“The response of the Islamic fighters is coming”), warning that any violation of the Islamic Republic’s red lines would be met with retaliation. He stressed Lebanon’s vital importance to Iran and promised a response to the Israeli attack.
The strike comes amid broader regional diplomatic activity, including EU ministers’ upcoming meeting on Middle‑East issues and ongoing discussions about sanctions and humanitarian concerns in Gaza and the West Bank.
