E1 settlement housing tender postponed by Israel's Attorney General
Israel's Attorney General has ordered a one-month postponement of the deadline for submitting bids for a housing tender in the E1 area. The tender involves the construction of 1,234 housing units across seven residential complexes. The decision was made to prevent the tender from being used as prohibited election propaganda, as the original deadline fell just eight days before the Knesset elections.
The Maaleh Adumim Municipality has announced its intention to petition the court against this decision, arguing that the postponement is an undue interference in a technical process that began months ago with the cooperation of the Israel Land Authority and the Ministry of Construction and Housing.
The E1 project, located between Jerusalem and the Maaleh Adumim settlement, is diplomatically sensitive. International observers, including the United States, have expressed concerns that construction in this area could undermine the territorial continuity necessary for a future Palestinian state. Several nations, including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, have previously condemned settlement expansion in the region.
