Israel Bars U.S. Refueling Aircraft at Ben Gurion Amid Iran War

Israel’s transport minister ordered that additional U.S. military refuelling aircraft be prevented from landing at Ben Gurion Airport as the 2026 conflict with Iran intensifies. Approximately 30 U.S. tankers are already parked at the airport, and the ministry set a limit of 20, warning that up to 50,000 civilian tickets could be affected during the peak July travel season. The decision sparked a dispute between Israel’s transport and defence ministries over how to manage the aircraft amid the renewed hostilities.

Separately, a retired Israeli Air Force brigadier general disclosed that changes in U.S. aircraft flight patterns nearly exposed Israel’s surprise strike on Iran, known as Operation Rising Lion (or Epic Fury). The strike, launched on February 28 2026, involved around 900 joint attacks on Iranian nuclear and missile sites. The near‑exposure forced Israeli forces to adjust tactics to avoid Iranian air‑defence detection, and market analysts are watching for possible Iranian airspace closures.
