Israel airstrikes ravage Tyre, Lebanon, spurring UN war‑crimes probe

Israeli airstrikes on the Lebanese city of Tyre on 9‑11 June 2026 killed at least eight people, wounded 29 and reduced large parts of the city to rubble. The attacks hit a Christian neighbourhood that had become a refuge for Palestinian and Syrian displaced persons, after Israel’s defence forces issued an evacuation order for the area. Hezbollah claimed new rocket fire in response, and further Israeli drones struck nearby towns such as Nabatieh and Kfar Rumman, causing additional casualties.

The United Nations announced a human‑rights mission to investigate possible violations by both Israel and Hezbollah, with experts set to collect testimony on the ground. Israeli President Isaac Herzog sent a “message of peace” to Lebanon’s leadership while the bombings continued. Médecins Sans Frontières condemned the forced evacuations, saying they exposed civilians to unsafe conditions and forced the suspension of medical services.

The escalation has drawn international concern, with Iran warning that further Israeli strikes could jeopardise the cease‑fire that has held since late April.
