Israel bombs Beirut’s Dahieh district as US‑Iran historic peace accord is unveiled

On 14 June 2026 the Israeli Defence Forces carried out an air strike on Dahieh, a densely‑populated suburb on the southern edge of Beirut. Israel said the target was a Hezbollah command centre.

Local sources reported at least one civilian killed and four injured; other reports mentioned three deaths and fifteen injuries, including the alleged Hezbollah commander Ali al‑Hajj.

The Israeli military said the raid was retaliation for a Hezbollah drone attack earlier that day on northern Israel and IDF positions in southern Lebanon.

The strike coincided with the United States and Iran announcing a historic agreement, mediated by Pakistan, to end hostilities across the region. A formal signing is scheduled in Switzerland on 19 June. The pact calls for an immediate, permanent cease‑fire, the end of the U.S. naval blockade of Iran, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and strict nuclear non‑proliferation inspections.

Israeli officials stressed that the agreement does not change Israel’s security posture; the army will keep its positions in southern Lebanon to confront Hezbollah. Iran’s parliamentary speaker condemned the Israeli raid and warned of possible reprisals.
