Israel breaches ceasefire with bombings in Gaza and Lebanon

Israeli airstrikes over the weekend killed at least 18 Palestinians, including women and children, in displacement camps in the Gaza Strip. Health officials said the attacks violated the cease‑fire that had been in place, prompting accusations from Palestinian authorities and calls for an independent investigation by the European Union.

At the same time, Israel continued bombing operations in southern Lebanon despite a recent extension of the cease‑fire negotiated in Washington. Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israeli forces would maintain “freedom of action” and keep their positions in Lebanon. Both incidents have drawn criticism from mediators such as Egypt and Qatar and raised concerns about the durability of the truce across the region.
