Israel captures senior Hamas security chief Mu’in al Arabid in Gaza raid
Israeli security forces, led by the Shin Bet and assisted by the IDF, conducted a covert ground operation in the al-Katiba area of western Gaza City to capture Mu’in al Arabid, the head of Hamas’s internal security apparatus. Israeli officials described al-Arabid as an “intelligence treasure” whose capture could expose Hamas’s plans and deception campaigns.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu identified al-Arabid as one of Hamas’s highest-ranking leaders, accusing him of being responsible for the movement and concealment of hostages taken during the October 7 attacks. The operation involved high-precision intelligence and special forces infiltrating deep into territory controlled by Hamas.
The raid has caused significant tension regarding the existing ceasefire. Hamas warned that the operation could lead to a total collapse of the agreement, while also claiming that its fighters killed several Israeli soldiers during the encounter. However, the IDF denied any Israeli casualties. Additionally, Palestinian medics reported that Israeli airstrikes during the operation killed at least four Palestinians, including two children and a woman.
