Israel captures Hamas internal security chief in Gaza City raid

Israeli special forces from the Shin Bet and the IDF conducted a raid in Gaza City, capturing Muein al-Arabid, the head of Hamas’s internal security apparatus. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the operation as a major success, stating that al-Arabid was responsible for hiding and transporting Israeli hostages, as well as protecting high-ranking Hamas officials and attempting to rebuild the group's military capabilities.

The operation, which took place near al-Arabid's residence, involved intense airstrikes to provide cover for the withdrawing forces. Palestinian medical sources and the Gaza-run Ministry of Health reported that the strikes resulted in multiple fatalities, including children, and left several others wounded. Hamas officials denounced the raid as a criminal operation, claiming al-Arabid's role was limited to combating collaborators rather than direct military activity.

Al-Arabid has been taken to Israel for interrogation. The capture comes amid ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip, despite a US-backed ceasefire agreement that had been in place since October 2025.
