Israel conducts strikes in Gaza targeting Hamas leader and water plant
Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have targeted both Hamas leadership and critical civilian infrastructure. The Israeli military announced the death of a Hamas company commander following an airstrike in Deir al-Balah. Additionally, the military stated it targeted a Hamas weapons depot in Gaza City.
Recent strikes have also hit the Sheikh Radwan desalination plant in Gaza City. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem condemned the destruction of the water station, labeling it a violation of the current ceasefire and part of a displacement plan. The destruction of such facilities exacerbates an existing water crisis, with daily production in the enclave having fallen from 300,000 cubic meters to under 120,000 cubic meters.
Other reported strikes include attacks on a mosque and residential areas in the Shati neighborhood and a missile strike in the Bureij refugee camp that killed one person. These military actions occur amid ongoing diplomatic efforts by the United States to establish a framework for Gaza's future administration and security, though significant disagreements remain between Israel and Hamas regarding disarmament and troop withdrawal.
