Israel conducts religious site arrests and labor crackdowns

Israeli authorities have conducted several operations involving religious sites and labor enforcement. In Jerusalem, police arrested seven individuals suspected of desecrating religious sites in the Old City. This included three adults suspected of vandalizing Islamic graves and four others caught spitting on the Armenian Patriarchate complex. All suspects were later released under restrictive conditions.

In a separate incident in Beit Shemesh, an Arab bus driver was severely assaulted and knocked unconscious after refusing to allow passengers to disembark at an unauthorized location. Police have opened an investigation into the attack.

Simultaneously, Israeli police intensified efforts to apprehend Palestinian workers from the West Bank working without permits. Dozens were arrested in Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv area, including 18 individuals found hidden in a double compartment of a truck. The crackdown also targeted employers suspected of hiring undocumented workers, occurring amidst a difficult economic climate in the West Bank where many seek higher wages in Israel.
