Israel conducts strikes in southern Lebanon amid political debate

Israeli forces have continued military operations in southern Lebanon, conducting artillery strikes, airstrikes, and ground movements in various villages including Wadi Slouki, Beit Yahoun, Mansouri, and Habbariyeh. These actions, which include the use of Merkava tanks and combat aircraft, are being characterized as violations of Lebanese sovereignty and the existing ceasefire agreement.

In response to the ongoing strikes, Lebanese MP Halima Kaakour has called for the government to exercise its sovereign right to prosecute Israel for alleged war crimes. She advocated for the collection of international documentation through the UN Human Rights Council, suggesting that investigations should cover the past two years rather than just the last three months.

Simultaneously, political analysis suggests that Israel's military strategy in Lebanon is influenced by domestic political pressures. Decision-makers in Tel Aviv are reportedly weighing between conducting targeted operations to influence Israeli domestic opinion ahead of potential elections and launching a larger-scale offensive against Hezbollah to reshape regional border dynamics.
