Israel continues hunt for October 7 perpetrators despite peace plan
The Israeli military has reaffirmed its commitment to a long-term mission of conducting targeted killings against those involved in the October 7 attacks. Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir stated that the hunt for perpetrators will continue until all involved are neutralized.
This stance stands in contrast to the US-led ‘Board of Peace’ plan, which calls for a cessation of targeted strikes and the disarmament of Hamas. While there is a consensus among the Board, the Israeli government, and Hamas that Hamas must eventually be disarmed, significant disagreements remain regarding the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the deployment of an international stabilization force. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has characterized these aspects of the plan as ‘problematic.’
Despite the formation of working groups to prepare for the plan's implementation, military actions continue. Recent Israeli strikes have targeted Palestinian individuals and officials, including high-ranking police officers, which critics suggest may conflict with the peace plan's requirement for fair treatment of existing local administration.
