Israel continues strikes on Lebanon despite ceasefire, death toll climbs

Israel’s army has maintained air and drone attacks on Lebanon’s southern towns and refugee camps despite a cease‑fire that began on 17 April and was extended on 17 May for another 45 days. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that the latest assaults in Nebatiye district killed 13 people, including a child, and injured many more. Earlier figures showed the death toll from Israeli operations since 2 March had risen to 3,637 with 11,188 injured.

Targets included the villages of Kefer Sir, Batı Sir, Cebşit, Adşit, Habbuş and Keferrumman, as well as Sur city centre and surrounding camps. Notable incidents were the killing of a poultry‑farm owner in Adşit, a 16‑year‑old child in Habbuş, and nine civilians in Sur. Israeli forces also issued evacuation warnings for Sur’s refugee camps, urging residents to move north of the Zahrani River.

Iran warned that any further Israeli attacks on Lebanon would meet a harsher response, while the United States has mediated cease‑fire extensions and urged both sides to halt hostilities. Despite these diplomatic efforts, Israel has reported continued operations, citing intercepted rockets and claiming retaliation for security threats.
