Israel demolishes Palestinian family home in West Bank’s El Halil

Israeli forces carried out a demolition in the southern West Bank city of El Halil, destroying a Palestinian family's house that was built about 27 years ago. The army justified the action by claiming the building lacked a permit and also destroyed a water well and a livestock pen on the site. The family, whose owner is named Muhammed Al‑Amour, said they possess title deeds and had added a second floor four years earlier. The demolition forced the family to seek shelter elsewhere, with the mother Ayşe Al‑Amour stating she will not leave her land.

The incident is part of a wider pattern of house demolitions and forced displacements in the West Bank. United Nations data show that between January 2023 and April 2026, roughly 5,900 Palestinians were displaced due to Israeli settler violence, with 5,536 incidents of settler attacks recorded. Israeli raids in the area also resulted in the detention of 19 Palestinians and injuries to a youth at a checkpoint. Human rights groups say such demolitions violate international humanitarian law, as they are often carried out under the pretext of ‘illegal structures’ while accelerating settlement expansion.
